In Talvivaara (Sotkamo, Eastern Finland) they mine black chist which contains nickel, copper, cobalt, manganese, zinc and uranium. A new method in Finland the biocheap leaching is used to extract metals. In the leaching process they use acidophilic bacteria ( extracted from the local Talvivaara rock ), which grow on the crushed stone in an acidic medium and solve the valuable metal out of the rock.
